OCHIN's Leadership

Susan Chauvie

Chief Clinical Officer

Current Position: Chief Clinical Officer since 2004

Background & Experience: Master of Public Administration/Health Administration from Portland State University, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, University of Portland. My nursing career was initially focused in public and private critical care venues. With a growing passion for improving health in my own community, I moved towards program development and making a difference on a larger scale in the primary care, community health, and public health arenas. As an OCHIN executive, I’m responsible for determining the clinical strategy of the company and providing leadership in our work with communities coming together to improve health.

What do you love about what you do every day? I love knowing that what we are all doing makes a difference every day in the lives of those caring for the most vulnerable people in our communities.

Laurie Coleman

Technical Services Director

Current Position: Technical Services Director since 2006

Background & Experience: I was educated in England where I studied Business Administration. Of the 22 years I have worked in the Information Technology area, 14 have been developing, implementing, and managing systems in healthcare. I’ve worked closely with clinicians and business administrators of Ambulatory Care, Radiation Oncology, Specialty Care, and Laboratory facilities.

What do you love about what you do every day? Working at OCHIN provides me with many opportunities that allow me to feel great about what I do on a daily basis. When our team develops new functionality or interfaces that reduce repetitive tasks or paperwork at the clinics, I feel that we are enabling our Members to spend more of their valuable time caring for patients.

Derrick Dale

Director of Billing and Tapestry

Current Position: Director of Billing and Tapestry since Autumn 2008

Background & Experience: University of Oregon. I worked in the health insurance industry from 1980-2000 then for CareOregon (the largest Medicaid MCO in Oregon) from 2000-2005.

What do you love about what you do every day? I love that I am able to support OCHIN’s mission and to meet my own personal social responsibility of making a positive difference in the health care of the under insured and uninsured.

Clayton Gillett

Chief Operations Officer

Current Position: Chief Operations Officer since Autumn 2008

Paul Matthews

Chief Technology Officer

Current Position: Chief Technology Officer since 2003

Background and Experience: Educated in England, major in Communication Engineering. I have 20 years of experience in designing large scale information systems, and was the principal architect of OCHIN’s current infrastructure. I joined OCHIN as a key consultant in June 2001, having previously worked extensively in large scale network implementations in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and here in the U.S.

What do you love about what you do every day? Collaborating with organizations that provide access to vulnerable populations is far removed from where I thought I would be 10 years ago, but every time I work with the staff at the clinics we support, I cannot see myself doing anything else.

Jodi Poitra

Director of People

Current Position: Director of People since Summer 2008

Abby Sears

Chief Executive Officer

Current Position: Chief Executive Officer since 2007

Background and Experience: Masters of Business Administration (Finance) and Masters of Healthcare Administration (Managed Care) from the University of Minnesota, Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of North Dakota. From 2000 to 2003, I was a Project Director for CareOregon and OCHIN. From 2003 through the beginning of 2007, I was OCHIN’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Strategic Officer. I am currently OCHIN’s CEO.

What do you love about what you do every day? I can’t imagine working in a better community than the community health center world or doing better work than what we are trying to accomplish. It feels like my hobby is my work and I have the opportunity to impact other’s lives.
